I am starting a forum in which we all share about the efforts from around our local areas where attempts to enshrine or enforce religiously-based laws are being foisted on the community.
Republican U.S. Rep Walter Jones of North Carolina introduced this bill to repeal the 1954 Johnson Amendment. The Johnson Amendment prevented pastors, priests, rabbis, congregations (as a unit), or churches in general from endorsing or opposing political candidates. President Obama would no doubt veto any such bill that made it to his desk. However, a very real possibility exists that this could get enough traction to make it there considering our Congressional make up right now. I have already written a personal letter to my House representative, Andre Carson, D-IN. I encourage you all to do the same – if you have a U.S. Representative.
