Gaywithoutgod exists to amplify the voice of LGBTQ skeptics and atheists. We're here to contribute to the diversity within the broader atheist and skeptics community which in turn enhances the dialogue. We focus on providing information and resources and connecting people with common interests with the purpose of creating a sense of comradery, opposing religious oppression, and emphasizing reason and critical thinking over super-naturalism.
What is a skeptic?
A skeptic is someone who takes on a questioning attitude towards knowledge, facts, or opinions/beliefs stated as facts, or doubt regarding claims that are taken for granted elsewhere.
What is an atheist?
An atheist is someone who in a broad sense rejects a belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, an atheist takes the position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, an atheist adheres to an absence of belief that any deities exist.
Where does the LGBTQ community fit in?
The resistance faced by the LGBTQ community in its pursuit of equality and tolerance stem from an overwhelming belief across the globe in supernatural themes coupled with a lack of critical thinking. Without a critical means to question religious claims to morality, misinformation about sexuality and gender identity is allowed to propagate. This combination of belief and fallacious thinking has fueled suppression of all types of minority groups throughout all of history all over the world.
As skeptics and atheists, we believe the skeptic's critical approach to understanding the world and the freedom-of-thought associated with a non-belief in supernatural deities are the ingredients for a more tolerant, inclusive, moral, and happy world. We're here to share with others the positive impacts skepticism and atheism can have on real lives and real communities and to help each other live the best lives possible.
